Bachelor-Syracuse Mine Three bachelors, Armstrong, Sanders and Hurlburt, discovered silver here in 1884, and ultimately had a town (ASH) and a mine named after them. Enticed by rumors of rich ore at the bottom of Bachelor shaft, men from Syracuse, New York, raised money and drove the Bachelor Mine and the Syracuse tunnel. Most tour guides actually worked the mine and are intimately familiar with the legend and lore. For the highlight of the tour, guests board a mine train and advance 3,350 feet horizontally into Gold Hill. After the tour, pan for gold and travel to dramatic and powerful Box Canyon Falls. End the tour with an authentic western lunch at The True Grit Cafe, named after the John Wayne movie that was filmed here. |
Gallery Stroll From nature photography to sculpture to jewelry, Telluride boasts some of the finest galleries in the Southwest. Art experts, often the owners themselves, will be available at each gallery to provide information and answer questions regarding the collections. Perhaps a private watercolor class or a photography workshop after the tour, will inspire guests to become artists themselves! Or, include Telluride's fine retail shops on the tour, and end with an all-Telluride fashion show. |
